What is Employment Technology doing for our community?

Employment Technology, Inc. (ETI) is a nonprofit employment agency that specializes in job placement and follow up training for persons with disabilities to achieve sustained success in the workplace.

Our Mission

How we support employment

ETI's mission is to assist persons with disabilities to achieve successful careers in competitive employment. Incorporated in November of 1986, ETI designed and implemented the first Supported Employment programs in Bucks County.

A Legacy of Advocacy and Service

At a time when segregated facilities were the only option for persons with disabilities in Bucks County, ETI developed a Pennsylvania Competitive Supported Employment Grant for Bucks County. For the first few years of that grant, monthly meetings of a task force were held, including Administrators of the local Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Office of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, Special Education, and Social Security.

Our Services

We offer a range of services to help you achieve your goals.

Eligibility/Referrals

Eligibility: Any person with a significant disability who requires a selective job search and a period of on-the-job training to gain successful employment.Applicants for ETI employment services are encouraged to access any appropriate local funding/service agencies, such as the Office of Developmental Programs (ODP), the Office of Mental Health (OMH), and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. In addition to providing referral and funding for applicants to ETI, these agencies can provide many additional work related supports.Private pay arrangements may be developed for persons not registered with the above agencies.

Initial Meetings

The initial meeting is arranged at the convenience of our customers, at their own residences or a mutually agreed location. Attendees should include the applicant and his/her family and/or support team. The purpose of the initial meeting is to determine the applicant’s preferred job position and essential job supports.

Community-Based Work Assessments

For customers who are uncertain as to their job interests, ETI can arrange brief job tryouts and assessments in real jobs with local employers to help shape and determine the best job goal.

Job Search

A targeted job position, specific to each customer’s skills and interests, is developed with and approved by the applicant. A job search plan of action describes the locale of the search and the types of employers to be contacted. Customers are encouraged to identify potential employers and businesses in their own neighborhood; this information should be given to the ETI Job Developer, who will then contact the businesses and evaluate their job positions and interest in becoming a Supported Employer.Applicants are assisted, as necessary, with resume and interview preparations.ETI searches for job opportunities which offer permanent positions at fair wages and a chance for growth and advancement. We do not develop or train positions which are temporary or seasonal.Supported Employers: ETI places an emphasis upon developing relationships with progressive employers who are willing to be partners in Supported Employment. Frequently, ETI is able to recommend the best candidate for the position, thereby eliminating the employer’s advertising costs and time spent in interviewing.

Worker of the Week

Take a look at our Worker of the Week highlights to see how we are making where we live and work a better place for everyone.

Worker of the Week: John Fargnoli

Worker of the Week: John Fargnoli

When we asked John Fargnoli what his favorite thing to do at Baum Precision Machining was, he immediately replied, “Mostly everything.”However, if he had to choose one, it would probably be doing the floors. “I like using the buffer,” John explained.John has been working in maintenance at Baum’s for a little over 6 years now, and feels that he is both appreciated and supported there. The tasks that he learned at Baum’s – including using the vacuum; sweeping up the parking lot; mopping and buffing the floors; and wiping down the surface areas in the lunchroom – were completely new for him.“Jaelene [my Job Coach] is just really awesome. She got me right on track last year and continued to do that this year. She’s really, really good.”With the help of ETI Job Supports, John continues to get additional tasks added to his list every year. In parting, John said that he hoped to stay employed there as long as he can. “I enjoy working here because the people and the place are just amazing.”And so are you, John!

Earning competitive wages certainly has its benefits: some people use their money to go out with friends; some use it to move out into their own apartment; and others try to keep up with the latest technology. Giant Employee, Ryan Azzalina, uses his paycheck for all three.Ryan has been working as a Front End Associate at the Quakertown Giant for a little over a year now, claiming that it’s the best job he’s ever had. “Giant treats me well, with respect and everything,” Ryan said. “I get paid good money, and I get along with all of my co-workers.”When Ryan’s not at work, he spends his time taking his girlfriend out on dates, and playing with his brand new Samsung Galaxy S6. “I’ve been eligible for the upgrade for quite some time now,” Ryan explained, “and I’ve been saving up a lot of money from Giant. I was able to get this new phone last weekend, and I’ve been really happy with it.”In addition to his new smartphone, Ryan lives in his own apartment, also located in Quakertown. “I’m living on my own, so I need my paycheck to pay rent. And it’s nice that Giant is so close to my apartment.”Currently, Ryan has his eyes focused on the future. “I am going to the beach in September with my friends and girlfriend, so right now I’m just saving my money for that.”Congratulations, Ryan, on your one-year anniversary, and your continued success with Giant Food Stores!
